Here’s an interview with fine Scots punkers Beauty School Dropout who’s cool demo we reviewed in last the issue. Don't take our word for it though drop them a line or email them and have a listen for yourself. This interview was conducted by disc transfer in Oct 97 answers supplied by Brad and Dave. HH: To start things off can you give us a brief history and a who's who in the band? OK. We formed in late 1995, practised for a while, and then started giging in Jan 96. Then we recorded our first demo, which we were dead happy with at the time, but it kinda sucks now. Not the songs, just the nasty cheap production. We then hit the big time, and landed two gigs in a row with Travis Cut that weren't in Glasgow. Our first tour!!!!! And then basically played lots of gigs, recorded a nice sounding demo, and annoyed lots of people with it. The band is Dave - vocals and guitar, Richie - guitar and vocals, Brad - bass, and Andy - drums. HH: So why the name "Beauty School Dropout" are you big Grease (the film) fans or just a bunch of glamour pussies ? We just thought it was a cool name. Although that isn't to say we're not glamorous. Just ask anyone. HH: You've got two really cool demos out, have you released any other material or have you got something in the pipeline ? Well, there has been a couple of labels sniffing about, so hopefully there will be an LP out soon. HH: The latest demo is a pop focused punk affair which has oodles of attitude are your influences from punk, pop or what ? We're influenced by all the classic pop/punk bands - Ramones, Descendents, Green Day, Face to Face etc. Punk without pop is about as much fun as genital warts. A wise man once told me, "stick to what you know". So we write about girls. HH: If you could travel to one place where would it be and why ? Since we're all practising alcoholics, we'd be pretty happy to travel to our lovely local, Nice 'n' Sleazy. And it's your round, matey! HH: You've got your own web site. Are you a bit of a surfer ? What's your favourite site ? I'm a big bit of a surfer, as my last phone bill will testify. The rest of the band think I'm a geek. But only cos they don't know about things like www.nudepunkchicks.com. There's loads of good sites out there. The Crackle site is good. Loads of links to all things punky. HH: What does the next 6 months have in store for Beauty School Dropout ? More pointless, unattended gigs around Scotland no doubt. You never know, if the album deal comes off we may even get to do some unattended gigs in England. HH: Well that's all for now. Any final words, plugs or philosophical ramblings ? Why haven't you asked us if we're veggies ? (because your eating habits don’t interest us - Ed) Don't you know anything about fanzine interviews? (no we don’t and that’s the beauty of DIY -Ed). Thanks to your good self for the interview. Buy a tape (£1.50 inc p+p), write phone or e-mail and offer us gigs. Visit the web shite. Scotland for the World Cup!!!!!!!!!
