Chamberlain - The Moon My Saddle (Golf Records)

If ever it was possible to forge, via genetic engineering, an offspring from the combined sperm of Bob Mould of Husker Du and Sugar fame, the old rasping voice of Sheffield's Joe Cocker and Neil Young then the resulting work of that musician would be this album by Chamberlain.

This is a powerful enchanting album that is not your usual run of the mill affair it has hints of Candy Apple Grey era Husker Du but a real haunting quality that drives the album along. Stars in the Streetlight is a particular favourite as is Mountain of a Heart. This a little bit like MOR power rock but its very laid back and has a lovely low slung chopping guitar sound and sharp snare that keeps the whole beat ticking along with metronome precision.

This album has grown on me, despite not being my usual cup of coffee. Actually there's some very fine songs on here that whilst not blasting and blistering are kinda of chilled out and the laid back feel is very relaxing. Like I said at the beginning its Bob-Joe-Neil's genetic love child make of that what you will!!!
