BOLLWEEVILS/GAMEFACE - Promo CD 5 tracks taken from the Bollweevils new LP Heavyweight. Fast aggressive punk rock that makes you want to dance 'till you drop, each track is an absolute classic. Gameface also provide 5 tracks from their new offering 3 To Get Ready . Great poppy punk with soaring vocal harmonies. Two releases that need a definite place on your buys list. DR STRANGE RECORDS BRAINLESS - Super Punk Tuesday CD Ex-members of Dr and the Crippens and a bassist who looks like Sid Vicious(according to the Press Release) make up this new band Brainless. Super Punk Tuesday could be just a continuation of the Crippens legacy. All the tracks have that rough and ready sound and those obsessive slasher-film style lyrics. They played the Fuck Reading do, this year and this release is a must for any Crippen-starved kid . GOLF RECORDS BROWN LOBSTER TANK - Static EP 7" This was great, melodic mid paced stuff. Reminded me of Descendents and Big Drill Car, really catchy and some great riff's. The three tracks just weren't enough and you kind of feel your appetite has only just been wetted. Look forward to future releases. DR STRANGE RECORDS THE DICKIES - Make It So 7" What follows promises to be a totally biased view. I love the Dickies, were one of the bands that turned me into a complete vinyl junkie - all those coloured vinyls! This is the latest and it is fucking ace!!! Cool harmonies and rocking tunes - anthems for the world! This little two track single has a sleeve incorporating the band pasted into a photo of Star Trek, with Capt. James T Kirk!!! Yeah, this is a great, catchy little record with all the classic rock n roll hooks, this band have been around one hell of a long time and they never disappoint me. But don't take my biased view buy it and see for yourself... GOLF RECORDS FUNBUG - Spunkier CD Funbug are a punk pop trio in the vein of All, Green Day and other American bands. They remind me very much of Goober Patrol and there are some pretty catchy tunes on here. I think some of the songs are over complicated though which slightly loses the melody in places. But I'm sure that this is just a case of them finding their feet and trying to define their sound. Overall Spunkier is a ptetty good release. GOLF RECORDS GAMEFACE - A Day In June EP 7" I really like this melodic kind of stuff. Gameface certainly kick them out with hook-laden harmonies and fine tunes. They have a sort of Descendentcy feel and sound. There are three tracks on this EP the title track is absolutely excellent The flipside tracks are a tad slower but have great melodies especially Thirst. Great stuff can't wait for the new LP. DR STRANGE RECORDS LITHIUM JOE/GAN - Split EP 7" This is debut release on a new label, Pig Dog Records. A split EP affair with LITHIUM JOE and GAN. There are 2 tracks by each band, which are pure pop classics. Lithium Joe treat us to a mixed bag of melodious pop, filled with more infectious hooks than a case of chicken pox and delivered with Clash style punk aggression. The two tracks on here are I'm No Good and These Days. Gan bang out fast melodic pop-core, 2 great tracks the Biggest Crime and Day Dreaming. Great single, send £2.50 in UK/$4 Eur/$5 World to: PIGDOG RECORDS, PO BOX 43, HULL, HU1 1AA, UK. MAN DINGO - All The Songs You've Always Hated EP 7" A numbered limited edition of 1600 and on red vinyl - all vinyl junkies can get their fix! The 3 songs on this 7" are all covers and hence the title, because this is the first I've heard of Man Dingo it doesn't really tell me anything about them. I usually hate these covers type of things but this is ok. The fold out sleeve is great The songs in question are an Eagles song. Huey Lewis and the News and Van Halen and all three have been punked up and sound pretty good. DR STRANGE RECORDS MILLENCOLIN - Life On A Plate CD This is fucking ace! All the way from Sweden, they play poppy, punky, ska-ish stuff - in fact they encompass so many styles, cut and paste them together then crank them up to full speed. They've taken their native land by storm and I'm not suprised. They're touring in December, so go and see than. The lyrics are personal but the music rips. If you like anything on Epitaph you'll like this. In fact Epitaph are after signing them! BURNING HEART RECORDS NO FUN AT ALL - In A Rhyme CDS Another Swedish band on Burning Heart, fellow label and tour mates of Millencolin, No Fun At All have a definitive Epitaph sound, and in places sound pretty much like Bad Religion. Especially with the two studio tracks here In A Rhyme and Leaving. The remaining 2 tracks are live and show a different side to No Fun At All, where they display a raw, aggressive style of punk with intense pace. They are touring the UK with Millencolin in December and I reckon both bands will certainly make a distinct impression on the people who see them. BURNING HEART RECORDS RHYTHM COLLISION - Too Long EP 7" 3 aggressive punky tracks from this band which sound very similar to the Lazy Cowgirls. They sound very raw and have a gutsy rock 'n' roll feel to them. Rhythm Collision are another one of the Dr Strange clan who have produced yet another great slab of wax. Buy it. DR STRANGE RECORDS RUPTURE - Lust and Hate CD This CD includes 2 albums a total of 42 tracks of 1000 mph hardcore from this Aussie band. Rupture play it very fast, very hoarse-throat shouty vocals and sound very much like Heresy, L'arm and the Wretched. All the tracks are extremely fast but there's some melody in places. There's even two covers, that really stand out and sound great at this velocity. There's Social Distrotion's Anti Fashion and Ramones' Pinhead. The lyrics are somewhat strange and obsessed with anal intercourse and masturbation. ECOCENTRIC RECORDS, PO BOX 572, 56005, KOBLENZ, GERMANY SCARPER! - Up-Tempo Fiasco... DEMO This is Hull based band Scarper's second demo. 6 tracks of poppy, Mega City 4-ish stuff that has tinges of '77 punk thrown in. Dispensing with the acoustic guitar certainly has given them a much fuller, harsher sound and the trumpet adds a nice folky feel too. A good demo. Send £2 UK/$4 Eur/$5 World to: SCARPER!, PO BOX 43, HULL, HU1 1AA, UK SCHLEPROCK - Out of Spite EP 12" This is yet another classic release from the Dr Strange family. 5 tight punky tracks with melodic overtones on a one-sided 12". Schleprock are a fine band with a sound of their own and create catchy toe-tapping ditties. The nearest comparisons would be to the mighty Government Issue and a touch of the Asexuals. Definitely recommended. DR STRANGE RECORDS STAB HAPPY - Pinstripe Propaganda DEMO Stab Happy return with a new demo. Huddersfield's skate-core, funk-metal kind of hybrids much in the vein of Rage Against the Machine. 3 tracks here much more polished than before. Track 2 is by far the best for me, really melodic and then crunching in with the power £2 from: STAB HAPPY. C/O 7 CECIL STREET, HUDDERSFIELD, HD1 48D, UK STARMARKET - Amber CDS This, I just can't stop playing. Starmarket are a cool band from Sweden and they're described by the label as "...melodic, dynamic, noisy popcore". This CD offers three cuts of excellent Husker Du-ish style poppunk with a dab of Fugazi thrown in for good measure. I love this melodic kind of stuff, you just can't get the tunes out of your head! I look forward to hearing more from this band. DOLORES RECORDS TILT - `Till It Kills LP This is another one of those gems I've not been able to take of my deck. This really is fucking brilliant! Cool female vocals that have a folky feel to them and the whole sound of Tilt makes me think of the Avengers. There's not a crap track on this LP, they all have instant appeal. With good lyrics and spot on backing vocals, this is something I'll be playing for months to on end. FAT WRECK CHORDS UNCLEAN - Flead the Filth CD From Australia come Unclean knocking out 7 tracks on the Ecocentric label from Germany. Sort of Doom-cum-Carcass kind of grindy stuff with pretty generic anti-police, anti-meat, anti-government kind of lyrics. I use to really like all this stuff; but about 7 years ago. Now I find it a bit boring and unoriginal. But if you like your vocals red raw and your music death metally this is for you. ECOCENTRIC RECORDS WAT TYLER - Tummy CD This is the second compilation of riotous humour and a multiplex of musical styles that can only be attributed to the Tyler clan. Another fine array of 7"s and comp. tracks all banged together on one 43 track CD. The booklet includes all lyrics, explanations and how much they hate CDs! If you look outside and it's pissing down with rain put this on for a fucking good laugh and a bit of Tyler sun. RUGGER BUGGER, PO BOX 357, LONDON, SE19 1AD, UK.
