FOUL PEOPLE - Don't Buy Things... DEMO

This Scottish comic duo are almost impossible to compare anyone to other than the Two Ronnies or the Goodies. One song the music verges on folk and the next it's an all out thrash attack. The folky numbers are the best and parody the style of the above mentioned comedians. Most of their lyrics are funny and had me in throws of laughter. The highlights for me songwise were "Don't throw it away" and "Save your Pee!". Send £1 inc post to:

FOUL PEOPLE, 6 Bankholm Place, Busby, Glasgow, G76 8SH, Scotland.

4PM - Midnight Escapades MC

80's style punk rock here from this Scottish band. Some good stuff on here which I'm sure will lead to more tracks like "UK of A" which was my fave. They are looking for gigs, so if you promote in your area they'll pay for expenses only. I suppose they can be akinned to Oi Polloi without the metally bits. You also get a lyric sheets with the album. £3 in post.

4PM, Abercrombie Crescent, Bergesdie, Glasgow, G69 7SR, Scotland.

FUGAZI - Red Medicine CD

This is a fine release, I went off Fugazi a bit after Repeater but when I heard this I had to buy it. There is a great deal of variety on here from subtle acoustics which change to raging discords (no pun intended!) to melodious rocking numbers. MacKaye's vocals sem to have mellowed slightly and this only adds to Red Medicine's feel. Back to Base is a real rager almost reminiscent of Minor Threat.

KNUCKLEHEAD -Live In Bath MC

This group were new to me when this tape came through my letterbox. Knucklehead who sadly are no more, were an excellent ska-punk cross breed. Blending some excellent catchy songs with humour and political content. This is a great document of their final gig, which leaves me wishing I'd heard this rabble before. Also includes covers of Zounds - "Subvert" and the Dickies - "Manny, Moe and Jack". Send £3.50 UK, $8 Europe, $9 World to:

DS4A, Box 8, 82 Colston Street, Bristol, BS1 5BB, UK.

LITHIUM JOE - Split EP Advance Tape MC

This is an advance copy of Lithium Joe's debut appearance on vinyl. Available soon on a new label, Pig Dog Records, as a split 7" with GAN. There are 2 tracks on here both play a mixed bag of melodious pop filled with more infectious hooks than a case of chicken pox and delivered with Clash-style punk aggression. The two tracks on here are "I'm No Good" and "These Days". The release should be out by the end of August, for more info contact:

PIG DOG RECORDS, PO Box 43, Hull, HU1 1AA, UK.

RDF - Ragamuffin Statement MC

A compilation of studio, remixed and live tracks from this accomplished politico-reggae-dub outfit. Mellow out with some meandering chopping rhythms and vocals reminiscent of Joe Strummer and Arthur Comics. The Studio stuff is excellent reggae and the production is really spot on which enhances the feel of the music. The live bits are more raw and in some places have a more punkier feel. Certainly worth your pennies, if you fancy an evening in with your bong. Send : £5.50 UK, $12 Europe, $14 World.

INNER STATE RECORDS, C/O DS4A, Box 8, 82 Colston Street, Bristol, BS1 5BB, UK.

RANCID - Let's Go 2x10"

A brilliant release, Rancid are one of my favourite bands. Fast riffs, wandering bass, pounding drums and melodic snotty vocals. Every track is a ripper and the white 10" vinyl looks great on the old turntable - vinyl junkies have to get their kicks, man! No comparisons are needed as this is a much needed asset to your collection... Buy without hesitation.

EPITAPH RECORDS

SCARPER! - Hardly, Likely... DEMO

A good debut from Hull based band Scarper. 3 tracks of poppy punk stuff, in the vein of Mega City 4 and has tinges of '77 punk thrown in for good measure. The acoustic guitar and trumpet adds a kind of folky feel in places, generally a fine first effort.

PO Box 43, Hull, HU1 1AA, UK.

STAB HAPPY - Score DEMO

Stab Happy are a new band with a great name, from Huddersfield. Only been together for 3 months but this demo is a great first effort. What you get here is 4 tracks very much in the vein of Rage Against the Machine. If that's your bag then send £2 to: Stab Happy, 7 Cecil Street, Huddersfield, HD1 4BD. UK.

TEN FOOT POLE - Rev LP

Former members of Scared Straight form this west coast sounding outfit. There are some great songs on here which are not desperately original but they make you want to jump about. If you like the kind of stuff that comes from the Epitaph stable, I suggest that this will be your thing. I certainly found it going on my deck again and again.
