GBH - At The Seaside VIDEO 60mins (Barn End Video)

GBH used to be one of my favourite bands back in the mid 80s, so I was expecting great things from this live performance to hopefully bring back cool memories of other fine GBH vids like Live at Hanley Hall, etc. Despite the good quality of this video with two cameras and pretty good sound it’s let down by the rather dismal performance from the band. This gig was part of the "Holidays in The Sun" shindig in Blackpool from last year (1996) and apart from the excellent renditions of the timeless classic Generals, Time Bomb and a quick look at present sounds with Punk Junkies the remaining tracks are marred by poor playing and most probably total pissedness. I think the bit that rounded it up for me was as Colin climbed the PA stack in the middle of that excellent title track from an equally first rate album, City Baby Attacked By Rats, he sings the closing bars of the song and as an expectant crowd look to their punk hero to become Jimmy (in the Night Club scene) from Quadrophenia but instead of taking flight in a sacrificial stack dive, Colin calmly passes the mic to a roadie and… easy does it now… climbs carefully back down. Nuff said.

SUGAR SNATCH - Live In London VIDEO 60mins (Barn End Video)

The first thing that grabs your attention about this is the fact that the sound and production on this video are top notch. It’s a kind of Live-promo-in your back garden type of video (though the mining is a bit poor) which is intersected with mini introductions to each of the10 songs by the band. This is the first time I’ve heard of Sugar Snatch and I have to admit to really liking them, they kinda remind me of the Glory Strummers meets the Toy Dolls. The video ends up with Ok… I love you… Good bye… with all the neighbours kids in the video while the boys strum about and have a bit of a laugh. Cool…

VARIOUS - Barn End Compilation #2 VIDEO 80mins (Barn End Video)

This is Barn Ends second Video sampler that consists of the majority of the bands that they have videos by. There’s 26 bands and the highlights are the UK Subs doing Warhead, New Bomb Turks Jailbait, Guitar Gangsters When The Razor Cuts, Oi Polloi Punx Picnic, MDM No Religion, English Dogs This is Not A War, Aftermath Dark Fantasy, and the Apocalypse Babys doing Eat Your Face. The quality, as with the previous video is good with pretty good sound and with a wealth of bands on here, this sampler represents great value for money and some rather top bands. Other bands featured include: The Hang Ups (promo), Z/28, The Vibrators, 999, Police Bastard, B-Bang Cider, Speed Urchin, Beergut 100, Ellas Dust, Bloodshot, Swampwalk, Special Duties, The Branes, Capo Regime and Swine Flu.
